Special Services

Baptism

In the sacrament of baptism, we are claimed as God’s own, initiated into the Christian faith and welcomed into Christ’s Church.  In the United Church of Christ, water is sprinkled or poured on the head of the child or adult, while the pastor invokes the traditional names of God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.  Because baptism is an act of the entire community of faith, private baptisms are not offered.  Instead, baptism is part of the regular 5:00PM Sunday worship service and is open to anyone who desires to be baptized.

Holy Communion

In the sacrament of Holy Communion, also called the Eucharist or the Lord’s Supper, we gather to eat and drink with Jesus Christ as we remember his suffering and sacrifice.  In bread and cup, we give thanks to God for the gift of Jesus and seek a deeper communion with God, one another and the world.

We practice an “open table” which means that everyone, without exception, is welcome at Christ’s table.  With Christians everywhere, we believe that Jesus Christ is truly present to us in the bread and cup, and by receiving them we are strengthened to live a life of love and service.

We celebrate Holy Communion on the first Sunday of every month, on Maundy Thursday during Holy Week, and every Sunday during the season of Lent, culminating on the good news of Easter Sunday.

Weddings

A church wedding is about more than just renting a beautiful space for the ceremony.  It is about making promises to one another and to God in the presence of witnesses.  Weddings are arranged through the pastors and subject to fees for space, music, building maintenance and clergy (please inquire for a list of fees).  We rejoice to offer wedding services to anyone, regardless of sexual orientation. Details about holding a wedding at Broadway Church are here. >
