THEOLOGY ON TAP:
An invitation to connect and reflect over "a pint" or diet coke -- whatever drink sparks your
inner theologian!

Join us as we gather with friends at a "local pub" to jovially wrestle with theological theories and curious conundrums! The evening is coordinated by the Rev. Travis Winker, Associate Pastor of Broadway UCC.
ALL opinions welcome, good cheer required!

Topic of Discussion:

Interfaith Dialogue &
the "buzz" around Cordoba House
*

Location:  Meet at the church (just inside the 93rd St door);
then we will head over together to a nearby "watering hole:"
Greystone

(on the corner of 91st and Broadway)

*
The Cordoba House project at 51 Park Place is often erroneously
referred to in the media as "the Ground Zero Mosque."

A FEW REFLECTIONS by Pastor Travis Winckler
on the lively first gathering of
THEOLOGY ON TAP

"One common theme I recall from our conversations was the need for practical theology that connects head and heart, thinking and practice, in a life of faith. For theology to matter for us today, it has to be spiritually nourishing and formational for our faith. If theology is something that only stays in the mind like intellectual gymnastics, the whole endeavor seems, in the words of one Theology on Tap attendee, 'silly.' Well said.

"As I listened to the conversations happening around me,... I realized that whenever we come together to dialogue about things that matter to us most, we are in fact participating in the church’s long theological tradition. The great creeds and statements of faith passed down to us emerged from people coming together to talk about their faith in the hope that they
might find some collective language to give to their experiences
of God’s presence in the ministry of Jesus. Theology keeps from becoming 'silly' by being a part of the church’s overall life of spiritual practices, pastoral care, service, and fellowship.

"An invitation to a theological conversation is a chance to talk about the quality of our life together, and ways our faith can nurture fresh vision for a vital congregation. Like jazz, such conversations at times are improvisational, and that’s ok. The most important thing is that we continue to find opportunities to engage the conversation, adding our own voices to what the Bible calls the great 'cloud of witnesses.'  Thank you for sharing your voices!"
