Mr. Douglas O. Drake,
Music Director
Douglas Drake is currently in his fourteenth season serving Broadway United Church of Christ as our music director, where he also acts as co-artistic director for the Music Mondays concert series. As chapel organist for St. Hilda’s & St. Hugh’s School, he plays daily chapel services for students and faculty there. Mr. Drake is also organist at Eighth Church of Christ, Scientist, in Manhattan . For ten years, he was associate musician at St. Michael’s Church, where he helped to organize and perform in a series of all-Bach recitals on the church’s famous Rudolf von Beckerath organ. It was on that occasion that the New York Times commented upon his “lucid touch.” Much in demand as a recitalist, accompanist and guest music director, Mr. Drake has performed in Merkin Concert Hall and a variety of New York City ’s houses of worship. A graduate of the College-Conservatory of Music at the University of Cincinnati, he studied organ with David Mulbury. In his spare time, Mr. Drake, who is also a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and a New York State-licensed massage therapist, works as a project administrator in the Center for Molecular Recognition at the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Columbia University. Doug and José Vega, his partner of 21 years, reside in the northern Manhattan neighborhood of Washington Heights.
