COMMUNITY LUNCH
for ALL!
Reach out to our Upper West Side neighborhood by
volunteering to assist with the
FREE COMMUNITY LUNCH
Volunteer any time between 9:00 am—2:30 pm
every 4th Saturday*

often shifted to a different week — see the Events List for dates]
The Upper West Side of New York City is home to millionaires and paupers, homeowners and homeless, people thriving and people barely surviving. You can help those in need by volunteering to assist with the Community Lunch any time that the Spirit moves you, however the organizers find it most helpful if you can sign up in advance for one of the following "shifts":
9:00 to 11:30 am ----- SET-UP
11:30 am to 1:00 pm -- SERVE LUNCH
1:00 to 2:30 pm ----- CLEAN UP
HOW IT WORKS:
The COMMUNITY LUNCH has been a long-standing mission outreach sponsored by Advent Lutheran Church (our "sister congregation" — they share the church building with Broadway UCC), and it's FREE to anyone in need of a good home-cooked meal. Typcially about one hundred guests are served on every fourth Saturday of the month, starting at 12 noon.
Each meal includes a freshly-prepared hot entree (chicken or beef), a starch (rice, potatoes, pasta), a hot vegetable, salad, dessert, and coffee or juice, all of which are served restaurant-style (rather than buffet or take-out). Diners sit together to help foster community fellowship and, as they leave, each is given a bag of fruit to take with them.
Come join our friends at Advent Lutheran in this vital neighborhood ministry – it's another great way in which we can be two congregations that share one building and act as “one body of Christ!”

You can help out in whatever way best fits your life, serving once a month, once a year, or any number in between. You can show up at any time, however it is greatly appreciated if you let them know in advance — just email your name, prefered shift (see shift times above), email and phone contact information to Carlos Lopez: CL517@columbia.edu (with "Community Lunch" in the subject heading).
